GUIDE · FILE PREPARATION

Prepare a DXF for CNC

A vector file is an input to your CAD/CAM flow, not a ready setting for any machine. Run this review in the software your workshop uses.

Checklist before opening the CAM

  1. Confirm the unit. WoodPath calculates dimensions in millimetres. Check the import unit and one known measure of the panel.
  2. Check the scale. Compare width and height in the CAM with the dimensions you set. Do not correct the scale by guesswork.
  3. Inspect the entities. Zoom in on the outlines, look for duplicate segments or gaps, and check the cut and sheet layers.
  4. Run a CAM simulation. Choose a tool, depth, feed rate, clamping and origin that suit the material and the machine.
  5. Validate a test part. Check the dimensions of a test piece before you cut the whole batch.

When to choose SVG

Use SVG when your application accepts this vector format. Check how it reads millimetres, page width and outlines. The file does not choose a tool strategy or machine parameters.
